Indian Climbing Nettle is a slender, twining herb with
stinging hairs. Leaves are 6-10 x 3-5.5 cm, ovate or elliptic, base
pointed or rounded, margin sawtoothed, tip tapering, bristly on both
sides; leaf-stalk up to 2.5 cm long. Flowers are borne in spikes in
leaf-axils, monoecious, up to 2 cm long. Male flowers are above, female
flowers 1-2, at the base. Male flowers are about 1.5 mm across; bracts
spoon-shaped; tepals 3, spreading; stamens 3, anthers nearly stalkless.
Female flowers are about 3 mm across, without bracts; tepals 6, about 1
mm long, ovate-lanceshaped, enlarged and spreading in fruits; style 3,
spreading. Capsule is about 0.6 x 1 cm, 3-lobed, bristly, seeds
spherical. Indian Climbing Nettle is found in the Indian Subcontinent. Medicinal uses: It is a medicinal plant, which
has been used for centuries in Sri Lankan Traditional Medicine as well
as in the Ayurveda medical system .
